How to Dual Boot Windows 8 & Linux OS on a Single PC

When two operating system giants of the market clash, it’s a lucky time for the fanatics of the computer software world as they get bigger and better opportunities that they never had before.

But this situation would bring with it a lot of confusion for poorest customers as to what should be tried on the single console that they have.

Well, why not both? Today the amazing technology has made this possible by the concept of dual booting of the systems in which two Operating systems can be simultaneously used in a single system.

The two giants currently on the field are the Windows 8 and the Linux mint. For this amazing experience the things you would need are quite basic. A 10 GB disk space, a Linux mint DVD and thirty minutes of your precious time.

The biggest step to find out more about both the OS at the same time is to find space for both.

Dual Boot Windows 8 and Linux OS

  1. Go to diskmgt.msc through the run dialogue box.
  2. Once it appears, right click on the device drive and click on shrink volume.
  3. Choose how much you want to shrink your already installed operating system. A recommended setting will be at least 10 GB. Convert your required GB’s into MB’s and fill up the blanks.
  4. Now is the time to insert your Linux Mint DVD and push the required keys the screen displays.
  5. The next work is of your system as it should simply run the DVD by itself.
  6. Once booted, you can click on the install Linux button. When the dialogue box appears, select the “something else” in your installation type.
  7. Direct the place to install to the free space you created. This is shown as an option.
  8. When the format menu comes up, accept all defaults and change the mount point to a single forward slash (/).
  9. Click OK and then the install now button.
  10. Let it take its time and when it is finished, reboot your system.
That's it! Now your default OS is Linux but you could always skip to windows 8 by selecting it from the grub boot menu.
