Samsung Galaxy S5

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is official - and it's not what we expected. Rumors got a few details right, but not the whole picture, obviously. After so many updates and sequels to the S4, it's perhaps not all that surprising that the S5 feels like a small step forward.

The screen grew up only a bit and it kept the 1080p resolution rather than going to QHD.

The camera does, however, record UHD video - Samsung's initial information was for 1080p, but we can now confirm it's really 4K UHD (2160p).

Samsung does maintain the clockspeed advantage with a rare Snapdragon 800 chipset and while the fingerprint scanner was no surprise, the heart rate monitor certainly is.

TouchWiz was a bit of a surprise too. We got pumped up for a brand new flat version of Samsung's custom UI, but the reality is closer to what we saw on the new Galaxy Pro tablets.

The back of the device is a new iteration of Samsung's leather-like plastic, with what looks like perforated holes. It only looks like it though, the Galaxy S5 is IP67 certified - we don't expect to see a Galaxy S5 Active.

Samsung Finally Reveals The Galaxy S5 – The New King Of Android Phones

The wait is finally over as Samsung has unveiled the Samsung Galaxy S5 at the Mobile World Congress 2014. Building up on the highly successful and wildly sold Galaxy S4, the new Galaxy S5 is quite an improvement over its predecessor.

The phone hosts a 2.5 Ghz quad-core processor with 2GB of Ram. To support the added firepower, the phone also boasts a bigger battery which samsung claims, will last 20% longer than Galaxy S4 on a single charge. So when it comes to the raw processing power, Samsung has once again ensured that its flagship phone has the best hardware in the competition.
The S5 has a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED panel sporting the same 1920×1080 pixel full HD resolution as before. Just like the S4, this offers superb visual quality, though with a slightly lower 430ppi pixel density. The display offers great contrast and brightness levels while colour reproduction is pretty amazing.

The phone has a 16 Megapixel camera at the back that also supports 4K video recording. The enhanced camera also offers real time HDR processing for further enhancing the photo quality. Overall, the camera interface has been improved and the picture quality is phenomenal.

For those of you wishing for something new in design, you’ll be disappointed as the phone retains most of the design features of its predecessor. The curves and the build is almost the same as the S4. However, the back has been redesigned with a new soft dimple finish. The phone is being offered in 4 colours, black, white, blue and gold. With the new finish, Samsung has finally gotten away with the plastic, glossy finish seen in the Galaxy line before.

So whats cool about the new Samsung Galaxy S5 other than increased processing power and a larger screen? Well, the phone has a fingerprint scanner embedded in the front home button. This fingerprint scanner will offer greater device security and privacy. Furthermore, there is even a heart rate monitor at the back of the phone that can be used to monitor your heart rate.

The phone runs on Android 4.3 Kitkat and hosts several Samsung specific apps like before. There are also some trivial changes to the front interface which distinguish it from the S4.
The Phone will hit the market in April of this year with the price tag still a secret. However, there is no doubt that the S5 will sell like a hot cake like its predecessor because it offers great refinements and is undoubtedly the best Android phone in the market right now.

Apple iPhone 5C - The Review

The Apple iPhone 5 is gone for good, abandoned and replaced by the fresh iPhone 5c. Initial rumors erroneously suggested that the lowercase letter stands for cheap, but it turned out that the Cupertino-based giant had color on its mind instead.


For the first time ever Apple broke pattern and released not one, but two new iPhones this year. The successor we all knew was coming - the iPhone 5s - is joined by the "unapologetically plastic" iPhone 5c, meaning that we no longer get last year's flagship as the second best iPhone on tap.

On paper, the Apple iPhone 5c stands as basically an iPhone 5 in a shiny new outfit that comes in a number of bright colors. And, if you think about it, that's the most logical thing to do - the colorful iPod lineup has been getting lots of praise on account of looks so it was about time Apple's smartphones got the same treatment. The iPhone 5c is so keen on showing how young and fresh it is, that the traditional black is not among its five paint jobs (white, blue, yellow, green and pink).



There's a catch though. The Apple 5c comes with a glossy plastic body instead of the sleek-looking aluminum chassis of the iPhone 5. The reasons for the switch will probably never be officially revealed, but it could be anything from supply issues to budget, to simply aiming to deliver a fresh new look to match the redesigned iOS 7.



Finding the truth is hardly the point here, though. What we are more interested in is whether the company that repeatedly bashed competitors about cheap plastic phones over the past few years has created a plastic phone that you can be proud to be seen in public with.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8

Introduction

Screen size. Just like last year was the year of the multi-core processor, 2013 is surely the year of the big screen. There was a time when 5 inches of diagonal were considered overkill, but with just about every major brand now flaunting a fullHD five-incher, it seems the only way to go is up.

And Samsung has done just that. With the release of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 the Galaxy Mega 5.8, the Koreans are looking to blur the lines between phone and phablet even further, and add even more inches to its repertoire of display sizes.

The Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 is the lesser half of the new Mega duo, and if a 6.3" screen is just too big for you, then 5.8" may be just your size. Plus, there may even be a few people out there that might still consider it a phone.

So, what does the Mega 5.8 offer that other large-screen devices do not? Is the optional dual-SIM support and the more attractive pricing the only redeeming quality it has over the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note II? We'll tackle all those questions and more, but first let's take a look at the key features at a glance.

One thing to keep in mind regarding the 5.8-inch display is that it goes with a reduction in screen resolution as well, so you get even less pixels per inch than the Mega 6.3. We won't go as far as to say that at 190ppi the screen is "bad", but it cannot obviously measure up to the ultra-crisp 400+ppi displays of the most recent 1080p flagships.

When compared to the Mega 6.3, it seems that some additional sacrifices come with having a smaller display. As far as connectivity goes, gone are NFC capabilities, the IR-port, as well as the support for the new 802.11ac WiFi standard. But let's keep in mind that the Mega 6.3 doesn't come with a dual-SIM version, so it's not one-way traffic.
